Even with an alias like Lucky Date, Jordan Atkins-Loria had to hustle hard to carve out his own space in the electronic dance music world. His diligent devotion to the craft has recently begun to payoff in a big way though. With an inimitable progressive house sound, he’s become a sought-after artist and remixer, drawing the attention and endorsement of everyone from David Guetta and Tommy Lee to Porter Robinson and Excision. However, it’s taken a lot more than luck for him to get here…
1. What is the best part about being a producer?
- Endless possibilities. Being a producer allows you to play any instrument you can think of and even allows you to go further creating fresh, new, never before heard sounds. That's where I have all my fun!
2. How did it all start for you?
- I started producing in Reason when I was 13, I started by making hip hop and quickly shifted into making electronic music.
3. What would you be doing now if it wasn't for music?
- I would either be a social worker or a teacher. I have always loved teaching so let's go with that.
4. Is talent, hard work, or the connections you make the most important factor for being successful?
- All of these are obviously very important but I truly believe hard work is what pays off.
5. When do you usually make music?
- When I'm home I wake up and take my dog to the park. I get home around noon and produce from then on. Usually until about 7 or 8pm .
6. What is your favorite synthesizer? Which one do you use most in your productions?
- I still produce primarily in Reason which does not support VST/AU. My favorite synth in Reason is called Antidote. Sylenth and Spire are by far my favorite synths when I mess around in Ableton.
7. Do you work on mastering/mixing by yourself? Favorite Compressor/ Limiter//Maximizer ?
- I do all my own mixing. I don't really master any of my tracks, I mix em loud and release as is. I do it all in Reason so I petty much use their compressors and maximizers.
8. What was the best reaction you've gotten when a fan got to meet you?
- I met a girl in Hawaii who painted me an awesome shirt. That's def my favorite moment so far!
9. How did you discover Vandalism?
- I found out about Vandalism through collaborating with other artists. Every single person I've collaborated with has used your patches! I decided to buy Ableton almost entirely to use Vandalism sounds haha, I bounce what I like to audio and import into Reason.
10. What makes you choose Vandalism over other competitors?
- To be honest I don't even know who your competitors are! I use Vandalism because the quality of the sounds are unbeatable.
